Rebecca Fontenot has been named Judson High School’s valedictorian. She is the 3rd valedictorian from the same family from Judson High School.

The history with the Fontenots and Judson is quite impressive. With both of her oldest sisters graduating with the same title, anyone could have made a bet that Rebecca was next in line. Fontenot’s oldest sister, Hannah, graduated from Judson High in 2009 and her second oldest in 2014. Rachel achieved a diploma in the IB program.

“My sisters have achieved it all,” Fontenot said. “It puts some pressure on me.”

Starting her journey in 7th grade, Fontenot put all her time and energy into school. From an average student, Fontenot had more work ethic than most. The difference would be her ways of staying up to do it all.

“I was learning to live off of coffee, not sleep,” Fontenot said.

Having to focus on school and keep up with her demanding classes, Fontenot had to drop passions she had learn to love. She dropped art and creative writing just to succeed in school.

“I just didn’t have the time,” Fontenot said.

Those sacrifices have gotten her to where she is now – valedictorian of the largest high school in San Antonio. Her end goal is to have a career as an English professor at the Texas A&M University in college station.

“I’d love to be an English professor,” said Fontenot.

The majority of her reason to achieve valedictorian is family pressure. Her sisters have done it. It just seems expected for Fontenot to achieve the same goal. However, the pressure also comes from herself; it’s a goal she has had since her sister achieved it six years ago.

“It’s expected of me because I’m 3rd in line,” said Fontenot.

With over 3,600 students on campus, and senior class is about 750 students, Fontenot had the smarts and the drive to lead the large senior class as valedictorian.

Her family and sisters should be proud.
