Football beats Clear Springs

On August 31, 2019, the Judson Rockets faced off against the Clear Springs Chargers for their first game of the 2019-2020 season. 

In the first quarter, the Chargers caught an interception to put themselves on the 45-yard line. After a questionable call at the one-yard line, the Chargers scored the first touchdown of the game, leading 7-0. After both teams got shut down on offense, the Chargers punted the ball to the 7-yard line. Yet, soon after the Rockets ended up at the 33-yard line, senior Amarea-Bailey Davis caught a pass from senior Mike Chandler for Judson’s first touchdown of the game ending the quarter 7-7. 

To start the second quarter, the Chargers caught a 68-yard touchdown to make the score 14-7. After a 35 yard catch from sophomore Andre Jones, Judson kicked a field goal to make the score 14-10. After a 33-yard catch from the Chargers, the Chargers scored a touchdown to make the score 21-10. After Judson punched in their second touchdown of the game, the score was 21-17 with 2:54 left in the second quarter. After a huge run and catch from the Rockets, Chandler ran in for Judson’s third touchdown of the game to make the score 24-21 to end the second. 

To begin the third quarter, Judson forced the Chargers to turn the ball over. This set up junior De’Anthony Lewis to run in for Judson’s fourth touchdown of the game, making the score 31-21. After a Chargers missed a field goal, the third ended with the Rockets leading 31-21.

To begin the fourth quarter, Lewis ran in for Judson’s fifth touchdown of the game to make the score 37-21. With 2:37 left in the fourth quarter, the Rockets missed a field goal, but right after senior Kerron Napoleon caught a pick-six to make the score 44-21. After a late touchdown from the Chargers, the game ended with the score 44-28, as the Judson Rockets defeated the Clear Springs Chargers. 

The Judson Rockets will face the Wagner T-Birds for the annual Hammer Bowl at D.W Rutledge Stadium on September 6, 2019.
