Rolling into the world around us the use of social media has skyrocketed and tends to be consumed by phones and media. Look deeper into what’s behind the production on the phone and see what’s being produced in front of you.
J Rocket TV covers news on local, state levels in Texas, developments in technology, video game reviews, events on campus, “Word on the Street” segments, movie reviews and much more while broadcasting on many platforms one to two times a month.
Though they started off as a morning broadcast for announcements, J Rocket TV came to grow and found different ways of televising their productions. It became a community of individuals that have learned teamwork and social skills, while doing the things they love by building an understanding in the film world based on interactive experiences. Students focus on videography, creating “in the moment” experiences and sharing thoughts and facts that may benefit or interest their viewers.
Production behind the scenes can create various emotions for the students involved.
“Knowing that our videos are going to be out there gives me a bit of anxiety thinking that I shouldn’t mess up. But, I really like seeing the process and being behind the scenes, when what was made, becomes the video you want it to be,” said senior James Quillin.
Being a part of a team can help in so many ways. Not only will you learn the perspectives of others, but together the different minds sculpt beautiful ideas. Stepping out of comfort zones as they go from working alone to with a group.
Senior Luke Flores, expands on his experience with working together with his peers.
“I’m someone who likes to work alone, but working with the people in the program has been pretty good.” stated Flores.
There’s many opportunities that come along with J Rocket TV, including getting a “W premiere certification,” allowing you to start filming projects outside of school after you graduate, and having a position behind the scenes during production.
Directors and anchors are a few examples of the roles you can be a part of while broadcasting a film.
Senior Gabriel Brooks serves as a news anchor and credits Mr. Bourbois, the program’s teacher, as his inspiration for being in the program.
“When I was a freshman, I was just thrown in the class and I didn’t know anything or anyone except Mr. B. For sure, I liked the environment, while also learning about a camera.{learning] How much you can do with videos, translating that into something I can do later down in life.” explained Brooks.
The team and teacher played a big part into why he stayed. Mr. Bourbois being a wholesome teacher showed he can have an opportunity despite having a past.
Everybody has their own experiences that lead them to this community they’ve become now. Movie lovers can also find a place of excitement when joining, knowing that you’re learning things that will carry them along in the future.
Working behind the scenes is inspirational when having a love for videography. A passion is shown in senior, Allen Villalba Mondragon as his creativity and love for movies brought out what he wants to do in life.
“It [working behind the scenes] feels good. I looked up to plenty of film makers growing up so it makes me feel like I am a part of a film crew. I love cinema and I wanted to show my own cinema in a way,” stated Villalba.
Broadcasting information to the community, these films are produced to bring people together through the latest news and bring joy to Judson High School students and staff.
This program was inspired by Mr. Bourbois’ love of movies and videos at a young age. Starting off at his dad’s electronic store, where he to reviewed movies on VHS.
“What I learn from students is that, it [the internet] is always changing, and there will be trends either through YouTube or TikTok that they include edits, memes, or transitions. They surprise me on how clever they are,”said Mr. Bourbois.
