This weekend, both boys and girls track teams are anxious to show off their hard work as both teams head to the state track meet.

“We’re excited,” track coach Mr. Joel Call said. “The kids have worked really hard and they have put in a lot of work. They are reaping the rewards of what they’ve sowed.”

This year, nine students made multiple events including sprint relay, mile relay, and open events.

“It’s a blessing and a humbling experience,” senior Josh West said. “It feels awesome making it to state with the chance to help my school win. My brothers and I worked hard all year for this moment.”

The wins at area didn’t stop them from continue their success and training, with both team’s eyes on another state championship.

“We’re gonna do the same thing we’ve been doing all year long… keep working hard,” Call said. “You know there’s some tweaks we have to make at the state meet. We’re just trying to prepare for different scenarios that the state meet poses,” Call said.

It’s a very emotional time for the team and the school, with so much on the line and little time to prepare after receiving the news.

But no matter what happens at state, this is still a huge accomplishment for both the girls and boys teams, and something that needs to be celebrate.

“I plan to celebrate with my brothers after state,” West said. “This is going to be my last time running with them and this will always be special to me. We have a special bond so just being around them will be enough celebration for me.”

The state track meet, held at the University of Texas in Austin, starts on Friday and goes into the weekend.
