Dear Judson Seniors

Dear Judson Seniors,

We wanted to reach out to you during this time of uncertainty to acknowledge the fact that you are in our thoughts because you are our kids and we feel the same sadness and uncertainty you feel.  This outbreak and the measures we are taking to prevent harm toward everyone has taken something special from you that you will not get back–time.  Your senior year should be a time of joy, camaraderie, fun, and excitement as you anticipate your next steps.  We are saddened for your losses and only hope that you will grow from this situation and make the best of it through time spent with family.

It is because of our concern for you that we are taking measures to ensure your safety.  As a result, we are addressing events that define your senior year.  Your senior committee is working tirelessly and creatively to ensure that we respond appropriately.

Prom was previously scheduled for April 25, 2020, but will most likely be postponed for a later date.  As of now, UIW, like all university campuses, is not certain that they will be able to host large events.  We are doing our best to secure a possible alternate date and location if needed.  We cannot plan such a large event as it may still be outside the bounds of healthy practices keeping in mind that everyone’s safety comes first.

Furthermore, other planned events will be addressed as we receive information and direction from district and health officials. Please understand that this is a new situation for all of us and we are trying to make the best decisions possible for everyone involved with the information that we have.

While we are all in reaction mode, please know that we are doing everything we can to help during this tumultuous time. You are not forgotten. We are thinking about you. We are here for you. We care. We hope you find some comfort in the memories you have created over the past seven months together and that you use this time to reflect on the past few years. Our hope is for you to have the opportunity to create more memories to cherish in the future. We appreciate your patience and understanding while we work through this difficult time.

Remember who we are – we are Rockets.   Now is the time to show our strength and resolve in the face of this new challenge.  As your teachers, counselors, mentors and the adults you look to, know that we are there with you in this and we hurt too. This year was not the year we expected, but we can all work together to make the most of it, in unique and creative ways.  We encourage you to reach out to us and to each other.  We want to hear from you.

Although the campus is closed, we don’t want this to impede the relationships you have built with us and each other.  Judson is not just a school, it is a community, it is a student body, it is something that is bigger than us.  We hope to see you soon and rejoice in our accomplishments.  You are the Class of 2020, and we love you.  We are lucky to have you as our Seniors!

Sincerely,
Jesus Hernandez III, Principal
The Senior Committee
