On Saturday, September 10th, 2022, our Judson Rockets faced off against the Pflugerville Weiss Wolves at Pfield Stadium in Pflugerville, Texas.

The first quarter was an absolute dog fight. Both teams’ offensive units and defensive units were bouncing on and off the field throughout the whole quarter. The Rocket offense had a great first drive of the game but was unsuccessful due to a penalty deep downfield in the Rocket red zone. Weiss ends up scoring first late in the quarter making the score 7-0 Wolves.

At the start of the second quarter, Judson’s defense was electric, showing tons of energy for every play. Junior Jaiden Haygood got a great jump on the ball, and secured a backfield tackle twice for a loss, bringing a huge change in energy on the Rockets sideline. Sophomore Izziek Chandler also brought great pass coverage multiple times in this quarter, but unfortunately, it wasn’t enough as Weiss scored again in the back of the end zone making the score 14-0 with the Wolves still in the lead. The defense came back onto the field after the kickoff hot, as Senior Johnny Bowens got a sack in the Wolves’ red zone, which forced a fourth down for Weiss. Capitalizing on this play, Junior Nathaniel Stanley was handed the ball and ran to the outside, and scored on the play, which made the score 14-6 after the PAT was missed. Weiss had the lead going into halftime.

As halftime concluded and the third quarter began, Pflugerville had all the momentum. However, the Rocket defense still didn’t give up. Senior Chancellor Edwards secured an interception and ran it to midfield. This play exploded the Judson sideline with excitement, which gave the Offense more life. Judson’s offense then drove the ball downfield to the red zone but was unsuccessful. Junior Douglas Tolliver then hit a field goal making the score 14-9 with Weiss still in the lead. Edwards came out firing on the next defensive series with a set of tackles and a backfield tackle for loss on a third-down situation which forced the Wolves to punt. Towards the end of the quarter, multiple flags were thrown down which some fans were not happy about.

The fourth quarter started and the energy started to die down. Flags were being thrown all over the place, and the Rocket sideline wasn’t having it. The Rockets defense had a lights out performance all game and never let up the momentum getting a lot of third down stops and forcing a lot of punt situations. But Pflugerville’s offense ended up scoring two more times making the score 28-9. Sophomore Elijah Favela gets his first throwing touchdown as he rolled out of the pocket to hit Junior Demo McGarity in the end zone for his first touchdown of the season as well. Favela also threw a touchdown pass to Junior Michael Avery but a flag was thrown, resulting in the touchdown being called back. This made the score 28-15 Weiss, after the PAT was made by Junior Douglas Tolliver. The final score was 28 Pflugerville, and Judson 15.

The Judson Rockets (1-2) will play the Hutto Hippos (2-1) on Friday, September 16th, 2022 at Hutto Memorial Stadium in Hutto, Texas.
