Genetically Modified Foods Benefit Our Health

When going to the grocery store, one normally does not really think about what you are buying. You just get what you enjoy, from fruits and vegetables to meats and cereal, and what is best for the family. But through research, we found that the majority of the goods Americans buy are scientifically modified to some degree, more for the betterment of the food and our health.

Genetically Modified Foods, or GMFs, are foods produced from organisms that have had specific changes introduced into their DNA using the methods of genetic engineering. The foods you think are “all natural” have probably been genetically modified to fit your liking.

According to the HealthSearchFunding.org, GMFs are enhanced with more flavorful through modification, and also are more resistant to disease. For example, plants and animals that are modified can be less likely to run into unexpected diseases like salmonella and shigella.

The GMFs are also more beneficial with more nutrition such as vitamins and minerals that make it healthier for people and animals to consume. Most of the foods being purchased at local grocery stores and food markets are mainly genetically modified and are not organic nor all natural, contrary to what labels say.

Therefore, most of the food we eat and or consume is genetically modified and is not “natural.” Similar reasoning is solidified by the Food and Drug Administration and the Environment Protection Agency.

Nevertheless, according to SFGate.com, GMFs can also benefit local farmers by helping them to produce more nutritious foods through genetic modification. Some of the genetically modified foods include rapeseed, honey, cotton, rice, soybean, sugar cane, tomatoes, corn, sweet corn, canola, potatoes, flax, papaya, squash, red hearted chicory, cotton seed oil, tobacco, meat, peas, vegetable oil, sugar beets, and dairy products.

Genetically modified foods and other modified foods are overall a benefit to us by providing cheaper and more satisfying goods that last longer and taste better, not to mention is resistant to pesticides and diseases. When you have GMFs, you have healthier crops, better quality food to consume, and cheaper goods to spend money on, while still have a satisfying meal.
