The girls celebrate a big win against Reagan, 48-39. Junior Amira Mabry scored big with 20 points for the night.

On Tuesday, Dec 1, the Judson Lady Rockets (6-0) hosted the Reagan Rattlers (5-1) at home for a non-district game.

The Lady Rockets started the game off with a defensive stop as senior Kierra Sanderlin stole the ball for the fast-break layup. With a couple of defensive stops, the Rockets were up 6-0 early in the first quarter. Reagan started to get on the board as the score was 6-5. Sanderlin had a big block on the defensive end and went coast to coast, dishing the ball to junior Amira Mabry. They ended the quarter with a basket and a foul. The Lady Rockets are up 15-7 after the first quarter.

The Rockets struggled early in the second quarter as shots weren’t falling. The Rattlers tried to make a run as they made a couple of shots. Two minutes into the quarter, the Rockets answered back with a 6-0 run. They had the lead 21-12 with 4:15 left to play in the quarter. The Lady Rockets went on a cold run as the Rattlers put pressure on them. Senior Kiyonna Botello stopped the drought by drilling a 3-pointer late in the second. The Rattlers kept the game close as the score was 20-24 heading into halftime.

Both teams started cold to start the third quarter with both teams doing a good job on the defensive end. Mabry put up a couple of points as she scored from the paint. The Lady Rockets made it hard for the Rattlers to score as they held them to only three points in the quarter. Botello finishes the quarter with another 3-pointer. Judson was up 32-25 heading into the last quarter. 

Junior Michaela Verrett started the fourth quarter with a defensive stop as she stole the ball for the fastbreak lay-up. Sanderlin kept the Lady Rockets rolling as she took care of the ball. The Rattlers put Sanderlin on the line as she makes a couple of free throws. The Rockets were up 40-28 with 3:24 left to play and started to run the clock, making the Rattlers having to foul. With the Rattlers putting better defense, they were able to force some turnovers late in the game as they started to come back 43-37 with 33 secs left. Mabry sealed the game as she scored an and-1 basket.

The Lady Rockets ended up winning 48-39 as they improved to 7-0 in the season. Judson will play Antonian Prep on Friday, Dec. 4 at the Recko Gymnasium.
