Project Prom Dress is a nonprofit organization, founded in 2014. Their mission is to provide formal attire at no expense. They provide dresses and suits for young men and women, accepting new or slightly used formal attire, jewelry and shoes. Not only does this provide for the young adults in need of an outfit, but donating allows the dress to shine again instead of sitting in a closet, never to be used.
Broadway Pinups is a women’s clothing store that specializes in vintage and retro styles of dresses. While the selection for prom dresses are quite small, they do offer a few formal dresses ranging in sizes up to 4X. Most of their dresses are under $150 and they also have a wide collection of shoes and accessories to choose from.
A family-owned and run boutique, their prices can run up to $300 and more, but they do have many more affordable options of discounted dresses that may work within someone’s budget. Their sizing varies and no appointments are required to try on dresses. They have both an Instagram and Facebook to show off their latest styles.
It’s no secret that Macy’s has a wide selection of dresses and sizes, most under $250. They offer plus sizes, and of course offer more than enough shoe options to choose from. With Macy’s being very accessible, they are worth looking into for prom.
JCPenney is one of the more popular spots to shop at if you’re looking for a prom dress that is affordable. One of their most expensive dresses is $250, and all their other dresses are under that amount. Their selection isn’t as big as other retailers, but they are definitely worth considering if you’re working with a strict budget. JCPenney also offers shoes, jewelry, and a vast makeup selection.
Prom is a time for fun and an experience to look forward to. That experience can dim when looking at the grand total that could be spent on preparation, but these options hopefully help to lessen that load.
