JSTEM Opens At Judson Middle School

JSTEM is a new and upcoming school that focuses on science, technology, engineering, and math on the campus of Judson Middle School. It was started as a way to fill the gap of technology education and provide an opportunity for young students to study STEM subjects at a specific magnet school.
JSTEM has minimal requirements to be allowed to join: students need to maintain an 80 or above in all subjects, be a 6th grader in the Judson school district, and are chosen by a lottery system. Many students involved enjoy JSTEM and don’t find it very difficult.
“You just need to go at your own pace,” a sixth grader said.
“It’s going to help me with my engineering career in the future,” another JSTEM student added. “I thought it would be a good experience and would help me get into a better college.”
In each class, students are separated by group, each with a group leader, who is responsible for dividing work up equally and making sure everyone is on task. They take core classes, robotics, computer science, and others in STEM fields.
“This benefits the students by giving them hands-on leadership experience and allowing them a chance to collaborate with their peers” math teacher Mr. Jacobson said.
It’s clear that JSTEM is shaping bright young students that are dedicated to being technological leaders in the future.
