Review: Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3
On May 5th, 2023, Marvel Studios released Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. The movie was 2 hours and 30 minutes and was full of every emotion you could imagine. With a well-deserved 4.3/ 5 rating on Rotten Tomatoes, this movie truly deserves the uprise of attention it has received.
Going into this movie, I expected it to be just a regular Guardians of the Galaxy movie. A bad guy does something and the Guardians save the world but make everyone laugh while doing so. But this movie was so much more; it had something for every movie-goer. It was a love story, there was a good vs evil story, and there was a personal turmoil story everywhere you turn. This movie experience made me run through a gamut of emotions, I laughed, I cried, I was surprised, I was saddened, and I was elated.
One story that movie-goers were presented with was a plot twist that kept audiences in their seats through the entirety of this work. With new characters pushing the limits of their power to other characters testing their limits of dealing with loss, viewers are presented the human side of all these characters. An added bonus is the insight of each character’s multidimensional roles. Viewers see Quill as more than just the funny hero, they see Rocket as more than just the gritty animal savior and Drax as more than a muscle-bound brute. By being forced into dire situations, the Guardians discover that they are more than they seem.
This story was not only heartfelt, but it was well thought out and surprisingly gripping. Kudos to the production company for presenting such a compelling plot. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is more than just another Marvel flick, it is a deep dive into the characters’ pasts to show us who they really are. All in all, I highly recommend this film. This film speaks to more than just the regular Marvel fan, it is an overall movie-goer delight.
Pro tip: you may want to go to the restroom before the movie because you will not want to miss a second of what this movie has to offer.
