On Tuesday, April 9th, 2019 the Judson Rockets (6-4) faced off against the Smithson Valley Rangers (5-7) at home.  

To begin the first inning, a Smithson Valley player hit a single to set up the following Smithson Valley batters to got struck out to end the top of the first. At the bottom of the first, sophomore Aliyah Pacheco hit a single to set up freshman Keely Williams to get walked. After freshman Destiny Rodriguez hit a single, Pacheco ran in for Judson’s first run of the game to end the first inning with Judson leading 1-0.

At the top of the second inning, all of Smithson Valley’s batters got called out. To begin the bottom of the second, after senior Kadee Luna got walked, senior Melissa Gonzalez hit a single to set up Luna to steal home and make the score 2-0, giving the Rockets the early lead.

To begin the third inning, Smithson Valley hit a single and stole second to set up a double. They ended up getting their first run of the game which ended the top of the third with the score 2-1. At the bottom of the third, Pacheco hit a single to allow Williams to get walked. After Rodriguez hit a single, the rest of Judson’s batters got called out to end the third.

At the top of the fourth, Smithson Valley walked out a player to allow them to capture their second run of the game. At the bottom of the fourth inning, all the Rockets batters got called out to end the fourth with the score tied 2-2.

To begin the fifth inning, after Smithson Valley hit a single, the rest of the hitters for Smithson Valley got called out to end the top of the fifth. At the bottom of the fifth, Rodriguez hit a home run to make the score 3-2 to end the fifth inning.

At the top of the sixth inning, all of the Smithson Valleys batters got called out to end the top of the sixth. At the bottom of the sixth, junior Kaili Luna hit a single but was tagged. So was the rest of the Judson batters, ending the sixth inning with the same score 3-2.

To begin the seventh inning, three players for Smithson Valley hit singles with a run to follow, giving them the lead. At the bottom of the seventh, after both Judson batters got tagged out, freshman Mimi Thornton hit a double to set up Luna to also hit a double. This allowed Thornton to get Judson’s fourth run of the game. After an amazing walk-off home run from Gonzalez, Judson scored their fifth and sixth runs to defeat Smithson Valley, 6-5, with arguably one of the most spectacular finishes of the season.

The Judson Rockets (7-4) will face off against the Canyon Cougars (11-0) on Friday, April 12, 2019 for an away game.
