Today is Random Acts of Kindness Day

Today is National Random Acts of Kindness Day. This is a day to be kind, even more so than ever.

Random Act of Kindness Day started with a non-profit organization in Denver, CO called the Random Act of Kindness Foundation in 1995. The first Random Act of Kindness Day was established on February 17, 1995.  With a motto of ‘make kindness the norm’, the organization works every day to make this world better by urging people to work small acts of kindness toward others into their everyday life.

According to the organization, a little really does go a long way. One small act of kindness will spread far. One compliment given to someone makes them feel good about themselves which then causes a domino effect: they give out another act of kindness to someone else, creating a ripple effect.

Even though kindness should be spread everyday, Random Acts of Kindness Day is a day to focus on the idea even more, even here at Judson.

“It should be celebrated because being the receiver of an act is pretty cool,” sophomore Richelle Weaver said. “Everyone should be able to feel brought up by a little act, because it’s like little things that could change your mood a bunch, no matter the size.”

Want to get in on the moment and bring the movement to Judson High School? Consider giving out a few random acts of kindness today! Need ideas? Saying hi to someone new, helping someone when they are in clear need, and giving compliments at any given opportunity are free, easy ways to start. If you want to be bold, try creating acts of kindness every single day.

“I think that a random act of kindness day should be celebrated because it gets more people to notice the little things they can do,” sophomore Abigail Slack said. “However, we shouldn’t just confine it to one day, and hopefully kindness day opens people’s eyes to all the kind things they can do every day to affect someone.”
