In 2006, it was proposed to rebuild Judson to accommodate 2,800 kids. As of today Judson has enrolled 3,639 kids. With so many students in a space not built for that amount, it creates many problems for the almost 4,000 bodies on campus.

“There are too many kids,” freshmen Jamaica Rivers says. “I’ve been late so many times to 3rd period because I am trying to get through people.

The Fuel staff broke down the numbers: we have 1840 males and 1799 females. The grade count is represented by 1158 freshmen, 936 sophomores, 992 juniors, and 553 seniors.

Three middle schools feed into Judson: Woodlake Middle School, Judson Middle School, and Kitty Hawk Middle School. Woodlake feed Judson 324 students, Judson Middle feed Judson 310 students, and Kitty Hawk feed Judson 408 students. We only have two comprehensive high schools, Karen Wagner High School and Judson High School.

We also broke down the ethnic demographics of our student body. We are overwhelming Hispanic, with 1804 students being represented. American Indian/Alaskans are represented by 9 students, 76 are Asians, 919 are African-American, 20 are Hawaiian/Pacific Islanders, 693 are Caucasian, and 118 identify with 2 or more.

With more and more neighborhoods being built, there comes more and more students enrolling in our schools. The neighborhoods are popping up faster than Judson Independent School District can build schools – it takes about three years to build a school. Judson ISD is in the process of building a third comprehensive that will relieve stress from the flagship school. The school is slated to open August 2016.

In the meantime, Judson High School administrators are doing everything possible to accommodate the students and address the rapid growth.
