Trump’s wall will divide us physically and emotionally

President Donald Trump is not wasting time in putting in motion his ridiculous ideas into reality, trying to “make America great again.”

During his presidential campaign, Trump was very adamant of “building a wall.” He wasn’t taken seriously by many citizens who thought it was simply a political tactic to receive attention.

Now as president, Trump has decided to actually take action. He sent a tweet on January 27, 2017, to inform his followers and the country that he wants a change.

“Mexico has taken advantage of the U.S. for long enough. Massive trade deficits & little help on the very weak border must change, NOW!,” Trump said.

According to BBC, Trump has stated that the cost of the wall would be $10bn to $12bn, but many architects are saying that Trump’s wall is impossible and universally more expensive than what Trump stated. There was a study made by the Washington Post estimated the cost of the president’s wall would be closer to $25bn.

Trump is ignoring those against his idea and is persistent at making the impossible possible.

“I would build a great wall, and nobody builds walls better than me, believe me, and I build them very inexpensively,” Trump said.

Trump has a position where he wants Mexico to pay for this wall.

Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto has said that Mexico will not pay for the wall. Nieto even refused to meet Trump about the subject and even posted a video on social media stating why. However, Trump’s opinion has not wavered.

“Mexico does not believe in walls. I’ve said time again; Mexico will not pay for any wall,” the Mexican president said in a video statement posted to Twitter and translated by CNN from Spanish.

Trump then decided to change his tactic and wants to charge a 20% tariff for goods imported to the U.S. from Mexico, which translates to higher prices on everything from avocados to automobiles.

It is understandable where Trump is coming from; creating a wall would create jobs and a sense of security in our southern border. However, the wall still seems to be a waste of time and money. If there was a better relationship between Mexico and United States, they could both work together on the concerned problems such as immigrants and drug and human trafficking,

Hopefully, with the voices of people, this plan does not continue and the resources that would be used for the wall could be used for something more important like education or the scientific research.

Creating walls only divide people and in the state the world is right now, peace and unity is needed, not a physical divide.
