Football falls to Lake Travis

Junior Donnie Moody shows frustration after their lost against Lake Travis. The Rockets ended their season 12-2.

On December 7, 2019, the Judson Rockets (12-1) faced the Lake Travis Cavaliers (12-1) at the Alamodome for the Regional Championship. 

To begin the game, Judson got shut down on their first drive but major defensive plays from sophomore Treylin Payne and junior Donnie Moody forced Lake Travis to kick a field goal, which made the score 3-0. Senior Amarea Bailey-Davis caught an amazing tightly covered touchdown to give the Rockets the lead 7-3. After a huge hit from senior Keronn Napoleon, the Rockets recovered a fumble to obtain possession on the 39-yard line. Senior Mike Chandler brushed off tacklers and scored Judson’s second touchdown of the game to make the score 14-3, which ended the first quarter. 

To start the second quarter, the Rockets forced Lake Travis to turn the ball over as sophomore Myzel Miller intercepted a pass to give the Rockets the ball on the 34-yard line. The Rockets punted the ball with 3:54 left in the second to give Lake Travis possession on the 20-yard line. Lake Travis scored their first touchdown of the game to make the score 10-14. After a big run from junior De’Anthony Lewis, Chandler fumbled and gave Lake Travis possession on the 48-yard line but got stopped before they could score to end the second quarter with Judson in the lead 14-10.

Head coach Rodney Williams ended his first season as head coach with a record of 12-2.

The second half started with Lake Travis scoring their second touchdown which gave them the lead 17-14. The Rockets punted the ball away to set up Lake Travis to catch their third touchdown of the game, which made to score 24-14. Judson got shut down on the 39-yard line and got forced to punt the ball with 4:46 left in the third. Lake Travis ran for their fourth touchdown to extend their lead to 31-14. After another tightly covered catch by Bailey-Davis, Lewis ran in for a Judson touchdown to make the score 21-31. Lake Travis ran in for yet another touchdown to end the third quarter with the score 38-21. 

To begin the last quarter, Chandler ran in for a Judson touchdown to make the score 28-38, which led to Lake Travis to quickly respond as they scored another touchdown to increase their lead 28-45. After a very long drive, the Judson Rockets ran for their fifth touchdown to bring the score too 35-45 with 5:39 left in the fourth. After a stalemate for the rest of the game, Judson was forced to punt, which ended the game.

The Judson Rockets were defeated 35-48, which ended their 2019-2020 season.
