On October 3, Judson High School hosted their first blood drive of the school year. The dental and CNA internship programs run this event with the help from dental adviser Monica Nichols and CNA adviser Lindsay Leppo.

This ten minute process ends when there is approximately one pint of blood collected. One unit of blood can save up to three lives. The campus was able to donate 201 units of blood.

“Our interns go through the whole process with you, such as making sure you get something to eat and walk you back to class,” Nichols said.

During the past few months, there has been several heavy hitting circumstances where the supply a high demand of blood, such as the multiple hurricanes that hit our coast to the recent horrific tragedy that occurred in Las Vegas, Nevada, which added onto the list of recent tragedies requiring blood.

“Donations for Hurricane Harvey and Irma victims is still in effect,” Nichols said.

Although some do not donate blood because of a fear of needles, others embrace the opportunity to help other people.

“I would donate again because it was a new experience,” junior Christina Peters said.

Especially now, blood donations are needed now more than ever. The next blood drive will be held on February 6.
