Both boys and girls track teams advance to regionals

On Thursday, the Judson girls and boys track teams competed in the annual area track meet at Rutledge Stadium for 25/26-6A.

Both the boys and girls track teams took home first place in the area track meet dominating and recording personal records in multiple events.

For the boy’s track team, there was a clean sweep for the relay events, with Judson scoring first place in the 400-meter relay, 800-meter relay, and 1600 meter relay. They also found success in the shorter sprints against their area opponents. Senior Drequan Crawford got first in the 200-meter dash (21.78), while junior Max Rutherford was close behind with an overall second place finish (21.98) in the event.

In the 100 meter dash, senior Kenyon Morgan won the first place finish with a time of 10.59 and senior Richard Kuykendoll won first in the 400-meter dash with a time of 49.09.

Senior Roderick Johnson was essential for the hurdle events, taking home a first-place finish in the 110 hurdles (14.15) and a third-place finish in the 300-meter hurdles (40.12).

As for the field events, Crawford won first in the long jump (22-.75) and Morgan with a third-place finish in the triple jump (45-4.75).

Boys track team

The boys finished the track meet with an overall total of 136 points, beating their second place opponent Smithson Valley by 65 points. This is an overall improvement for the boys who placed second at district, falling short behind Smithson Valley by six points.

For the girl’s track team, there was a success also seen in the relay events, with girls recording third place in the 400-meter relay, 800-meter relay, and 1600 meters relay. In the short sprints, junior Island Blanche also took home fourth place in the 400-meter dash (1:01.30).

Junior Kaycee Brown scored a clean sweep in the hurdle events, with a first-place finish in both the 100-meter hurdles (14.53) and 300-meter hurdles (43.86). Junior Dania Turner was close behind with third place finishes in the 100-meter hurdles (15.20) and the 300-meter hurdles (46.24).

In field events, senior Zoe Richardson PR in the discus and took home a first-place finish (124.11). Senior Cassie Richardson also took home the first place win in the shot put (36-.75).

The girls finished the track meet with a total of 103 points, five points ahead of Smithson Valley.

The teams will compete at the regional meet on Friday, April 26 and Saturday, April 27, at Alamo Stadium.
