Over the President’s Day holiday weekend, Deadpool made $132.7 million dollars in it’s Friday to Sunday time frame in theaters. The film brought into live action what the comics have created over the years, showing us the life of the super villain we have come to love.
The film starts with Wade Wilson, played by Ryan Reynolds, on his way to battle. He waits patiently for his targets to arrive. Once they do, he doesn’t hesitant to jump into battle to find his enemy, Ajax, the attractive british villain played by Ed Skrein.
Deadpool is in the middle of exacting his revenge when he gets interrupted by two people he is very familiar with, one of them being Negasonic Teenage Warhead, played by Brianna Hildebrand. Wilson was a part of a deadly gamble in a bar run by his friend, Weasel, played by T.J Miller. The gamble is called Deadpool, thus creating the name.
Wilson was diagnosed with a terminal cancer. A man, played by Jeb Rees, gave Wilson a salvation by offering to cure his cancer forever. Wade used his snarky sarcastic wit to refuse his help at first. He eventually rejoins his fiancee Vanessa, played by Morena Baccarin.
After explaining to his fiancee that he has to leave, she refuses to let go. Through an emotional night for both of them, Wilson slips into the night from under her fingertips. Despite his refusal at first, he eventually joins Jeb on his offer that same night.
Ajax controls an institution for people diagnosed with terminal diseases. He turns these people into immortal beings by giving them powers through extensive physical and mental torture. Every person that gets recruited for the institution will undergo a mutation. The sarcastic Wilson makes enemies with Ajax on the first day. Ajax takes things very personally when Wilson uncovers Ajax real name is… Francis.
After Ajax put Wilson through the ultimate test, Wilson goes through the mutation, becoming the Deadpool we know. His face ruined and no longer the attractive man he used to be, Wilson is determined to find Ajax and force him to fix what he had done.
Through a series of hilariously comedic events, Deadpool finds that Francis has captured his fiancee Vanessa. Furious and determined to find Francis, Deadpool enters a heated battle. In the end, he finds that Francis cannot fix his appearance and never planned on it. It all ends futile, and he defeats Francis.
Deadpool is reunited with his love and she learns to accept his mutation.
“Fast, funny, and gleefully profane, the fourth-wall-busting Deadpool subverts the superhero film formula with wildly entertaining,” the critical consensus reads.
The movie was charming, hilarious and can even be labeled a love story, as Deadpool struggles to come to terms with his appearance and win back his love. It is definitely a movie to watch over and over again. It has an amazing plot and fun characters. It starts funny and ends brilliantly. Yet again, Marvel did a fantastic job introducing Deadpool to the big screen, making him loved and watched by millions all over America.
