Senior Darren Thomas is a great athletic defensive end that can stop any run, rush the passer, run with anyone that breaks through their front four, and goes from sideline to sideline to make those great plays. He’s a phenomenal athlete that focuses on not only getting himself better off and on the field, but making everyone around him better.
With his amazing ability to perform on the field, numerous colleges have scouted him, giving him offers that some students dream of getting. A few college that have offered Thomas scholarships are UIW, Texas Southern, Sam Houston State, Texas State and Kansas State.
With all those colleges in mind, Thomas had to make a choice to improve not only his career as an athlete but also has a student and person.
“I committed to Texas State because it’s close to home and family,” Thomas said. “My family doesn’t have to travel far to go to the games. The coaching staff itself, the facility and the players already there, I just have a good relationship with them.”
Texas State offered Thomas a full scholarship. Now, Thomas has to focus on is his performance in the classroom and being better on the field.
He believes that extra work off the field makes him the better athlete.
“Just putting in the extra work, late night push ups and workouts and extra film session to improve my game,” Thomas said.
With a great support system behind Thomas over the years, he believes that Texas State will give him the same support Judson did and help him grow as an athlete and person.
“I wouldn’t be where I am without my family and teammates,” Thomas said. “Just the support system, the benefits that I get from it and just everything that comes from it.”
Despite his amazing athletic gifts to perform on the field and being one of the top defensive players in the state, Thomas may have different plans in his future after college and football.
“Hopefully, I graduate from college with my masters degree and get a job in the medical field. I just want a better life for myself and family,” Thomas said.
With this being Thomas last year at Judson, he will continue to perform on and off the field at Texas State.
