Heading into the season, the Judson Volleyball team is looking to redeem themselves with the help of their new head coach, Shannon Harrison.
With a losing record last year and the lost of Coach Torvik, Harrison was brought into the system to put the missing pieces together and take the team back to playoffs. Everyone on the team has high expectations for each other and are looking to bring back a winning volleyball team to Judson.
“My goal is to develop them into young ladies and get them to their full potential,” Harrison said. “[I have to make] them believe they are great.”
Currently, the team is doing very good during preseason, which shows that both Harrison and the players have a strong bond and are looking to come off strong when the district season begins.
“I have them write in a composition journal about their goals,” Harrison said. “The first goal I have them write is ‘I am great.’ [I hope] the little things I do make them believe in themselves. The talent is there but we have to be their mentally.”
The practices are intense, hustling every day to build confidence and do their very best is there. Now, it’s time to show it on the court.
“I think we get a lot out of our morning practice,” junior Julie Coldwater said. “We always work hard and we run a lot.”
The volleyball team still have a lot of work to do till they reach their goals and it all starts off the court and in the classrooms.
“You need to adjust for yourself and make necessary adjustments if you are being distracted in class. We do not do failing grades,” Harrison said. “The expectations are high for them – you should be passing every class. If do not pass, you do not play.”
District begins tonight against New Braunfels.
