Softball advances after win against Austin Bowie

On Friday, April 26, 2019, the Judson Rockets (24-9) faced off against the Austin Bowie Bulldogs (15-12) at San Marcos for their first playoff game of the season.

To begin the first inning, Austin Bowie hit a triple to set up a double. The top of the first ended after freshmen Emily Ayala struck the rest of the batters out. At the bottom of the first inning, freshman Keely Williams hit a single and stole second to set up freshman Mimi Thornton to hit also hit a single and steal second. After Williams stole home, the first inning ended with Judson leading 1-0.

At the top of the second inning, Ayala struck all of Bowie’s batters out to end the top of the second inning. At the bottom of the second, senior Kellsie Ramos hit a single to set up Ayala to get walked and subbed out for freshman Deja Spears. After sophomore Aliyah Pacheco hit a single, Ramos ran in for Judson’s second run of the game to end the inning 2-0.

At the top of the third inning, all of Bowie’s batters got tagged out to end the top of the third. At the bottom of the third inning, senior Nyah Chapa hit a single which ended the third inning as the rest of Judson batters got called out.

To begin the fourth inning, Austin Bowie hit a single and stole second to set up another single. After Austin Bowie stole third and stole second, Ayala struck Bowie’s last batter out to end the top of the fourth. At the bottom of the fourth inning, all of Judson’s batters got tagged out with the score still 2-0.

At the top of the fifth inning, all of Bowie’s batters got tagged out to end the top of the inning.  At the bottom of the fifth inning, Williams hit a single and stole second but was short lived as the rest of Judson’s batters got tagged out to end the fifth inning.  

At the top of the sixth inning, Austin Bowie hit a single to set up another single. That was short lived as the Rockets executed an amazing triple play to end the top of the sixth. At the bottom of the sixth, senior Melissa Gonzalez hit a double and got subbed out for freshman Arianna Alejandro, which set up Ramos to hit a double and allow Alejandro to run in for Judson’s third run of the game. The sixth inning ended with Judson’s leading 3-0.

To begin the top of the seventh inning, all of Bowie’s batters got called out to end the game as the Judson Rockets defeat the Austin-Bowie Bulldogs 3-0.

The Judson Rockets (25-9) will face the Johnson Jaguars (23-14) on Thursday, May 2, 2019, at Northside Softball Field.
