The Judson Rockets (25-9) faced the Johnson Jaguars (23-14) on Thursday, May 2, 2019, at Northside Softball Complex for the second round of the 2019 softball playoffs.

At the top of the first inning, freshman Destiny Rodriguez hit a single but was short lived as the rest of Judson’s batters got tagged out to end the top of the first. At the bottom of the first, freshman Emily Ayala strikes Johnson’s batters out to end the first with the score 0-0.

To begin the top of the second inning, senior Kellsie Ramos hit a single but after the rest of the batters got tagged out, the first ended with the score 0-0. At the bottom of the second, Ayala struck all of Johnson’s batters out to end the second inning.

At the top of the third inning, all of Judson’s batters got tagged out to end the top of the third. At the bottom of the third, all of Johnson’s batters got tagged out to end the third inning.

At the top of the fourth inning, Rodriguez hit a single, stole second and got subbed out for freshman Deja Spears to allow senior Kadee Luna to hit a single. After a single from senior Melissa Gonzalez, Spears ran in for Judson’s first run of the game to end the top of the fourth inning with Judson leading 1-0. At the bottom of the fourth, all of Johnson’s batters got tagged out to end the fourth with the score 1-0.

To begin the fifth inning, freshman Keely Williams hit a single and stole second to set up Rodriguez to get walked. After senior Nyah Chapa hit a single and got subbed for Spears, Luna hit a double to allow Rodriguez, Williams, and Spears to run in for Judson’s second, third and fourth runs of the game to make the score 4-0 to end the top of the fifth. At the bottom of the fifth, all of Johnson’s batters got tagged out to end the fifth inning.

At the top of the sixth, all of Judson’s batters got called out to end the top of the sixth. At the bottom of the sixth, Johnson hit a single and stole second to set up a double. After another double, two of Johnson’s players ran in for their first and second runs of the game to make the score 4-2, which ended the sixth inning.

At the top of the seventh, Rodriguez hit a double but was short lived as the rest of Judson’s batters got called out to end the top of the seventh. At the bottom of the seventh, the Judson Rockets defeated the Johnson Jaguars 4-2 as all of Johnson’s batters got called out.


The Judson Rockets (26-9) will head to regional play facing the winner of Austin High and Warren.
