Meet The Vamps
The U.K. boy band releases their new studio album, becoming the new boy-band on the U.S. pop scene.
The British boy band, The Vamps, who have been nominated for a Radio Disney Music Award for “The Freshest-Best New Artist,” have released their new album, “Meet The Vamps.” The band, who started by posting covers on YouTube, have now become a sensation in both the U.K. and U.S.
Originating from different parts of the U.K, the members of The Vamps came together through YouTube and social media. At the time, lead guitarist James McVey, had been producing music on his own when he decided being in a group would be fun. He had been searching through YouTube for possible bandmates when he happened to come across now lead singer Brad Simpson’s many covers.
A Facebook friend request from drummer Tristan Evans would later become the reason for his joining the band. Evans happened to be one of the top three drummers in the U.K. in his age division. The last and final member that joined the group was bass guitarist Connor Bell. Bell was a singer and guitarist who learned to play bass for the band.
To get noticed, the band decided to record covers, which they later posted on YouTube. These covers earned them a new legion of fans and later the band was signed to Virgin EMI in the U.K.
Complete with 18 songs, the album “Meet The Vamps,” was released on April 15, 2014. The album peaked at 40 on the Billboard top 200. Target released a Christmas version of the album with several bonus tracks including “Jingle Bells,” “Hoping for Snow,” and “We Wish You a Merry Christmas.”
The album has some great songs that include “Risk It All,” and “Dangerous.” Both songs have a boy-band feel to them, similar to the sounds of ‘NSYNC and The Backstreet Boys of the ‘90s. “She Was The One” is a heart-felt song about a devastating break-up, was also one of the best songs on the album and a personal favorite.
“Last Night” and “Can We Dance” were not the album’s best, even though they have a good feel to them. The songs felt like they did not seem cohesive to the entire album. Both songs are up-beat party songs, which are catchy, but the lyrics seemingly didn’t quite fit with the personality of the band. Even though those songs weren’t the best, it doesn’t mean that the entire album wasn’t good. Like all other albums, there are the few songs that don’t quite go, but the rest of the album is amazing. This is an album that applies to that critique.
Despite the albums few flaws, The Vamps have seemingly brought more original music for a growing group of fans all over the world to enjoy. The goal of making music is seemingly to get the fans to connect with the music, and The Vamps definitely accomplished that with their first album.
